Pesticide exposure is one of many important hazards in agriculture. The proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—including correct doffing (removing)—is essential for protecting individuals when handling pesticides.
Here are the doffing steps as described in the video:
1. Wash and remove boots
2. Wash the outside surface of gloves; this should be done before removing any additional PPE
3. Take off apron or outer coveralls (if using)
4. Remove chemical goggles
5. Remove gloves
6. Remove the respirator
7. Wash hands
Here are some cleaning and storage tips:
Wear nitrile or disposable gloves when washing reusable PPE.
For reusable PPE, allow it to dry for 8 to 24 hours indoors and out of the sun. Do not store PPE while wet.
Many reusable respirators will have multiple parts that need to be laid out to dry separately.
After handling pesticides, it is important to shower and change into uncontaminated clothing as soon as possible.
