Welcome to an insightful discussion on law and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI). Engineer-turned-lawyer Lily Lim and construction litigation lawyer Tanja Podnic, both deeply passionate about AI ethics, explore some of today’s most pressing questions. They share their perspectives on the advantages AI offers new lawyers, as well as the challenges law schools may face if they fail to incorporate AI education into legal training. Lily and Tanja delve into the capabilities of generative AI, comparing its potential with current expectations, and emphasize the importance of educating users on how to effectively leverage these tools. Also, they highlight how AI can fast-track and modernize legal tasks such as redlining contracts. Finally, they tackle the million-dollar question: "Will AI replace lawyers?"

Lily Lim began her career as a spacecraft navigation engineer at NASA after graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She has extensive experience collaborating with international teams to foster innovation through technology. As her career progressed, Lily realized that law was the key driver behind the development and regulation of technology. This revelation led her to pursue a JD at Yale University, where she developed the skills needed to merge her passion for law and technology. Today, Lily serves as Assistant General Counsel and Head of IP, Software, and AI Legal Strategies at Fortive.

Tanja Podnic started her career in construction litigation after earning her law degree from Western Sydney University. While practicing, she had an epiphany: law and technology are deeply interconnected. This realization prompted her to delve into machine learning, driven by a pressing question: What are the risks of replacing human knowledge with machines? What are the ethical implications of AI? In search of answers, Tanja founded her own business, Digital Legal Venture, and now serves as Senior Vice President of AI Programs at ContractPodAi.
