Chesapeake and Ohio

Chesapeake and Ohio 2-6-6-2 #1309 is the largest operating steam locomotive on the East Coast of the USA. Several dozen patrons and I spent a somewhat chilly February 2023 day with Lerro Photography at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, in Cumberland, MD, photographing the locomotive pulling a replicated "coal drag" up the grade from Cumberland to Frostburg, MD.

What's extra special about this event is that the locomotive is normally painted in the railroad's "Western Maryland" paint scheme. For this and other Lerro charters, the locomotive was re-lettered and re-numbered for its original Chesapeake and Ohio paint scheme. After the charters are done, the locomotive goes back into the regular paint scheme that it has had since it started operations on the line in 2021.
