Cheap Eats Manila: Limapulo Baba Can Cook | Best Nyonya Curry Laksa | SM Mall of Asia. If you are looking for the best bowl of Curry Laksa in Manila, Limapulo from Malaysia has just opened at the SM Mall of AsiaFood Hall. It was franchised by Raymond Chua Chuy and opened on February 2020. We visited their branch in Kuala Lumpur a few yearsand are delighted to experience this award winning laksa again. Laksa is a spicy noodle soup that either has a soup base made with coconut curry or a sour fish and tamarind known as assam laksa and a must try dish if you are in Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia. Limapulo was started in 2014 by Chef John Tam Kim Chye also known as Uncle John who specializes in Nyonya Cuisine using recipes that have been passed down for generations. Nyonya cuisine comes from the Peranakans, descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Penang, Malacca, Singapore and Indonesia inter-marrying with local Malays and combines Chinese, Malay and other influences. At Limapulo their Curry Laksa is guaranteed to tantalize your taste buds, the paste used in the laksacomprises no less than eight core ingredients such as shallots, galangal, turmeric, candlenuts, dried chillies and lemongrass, but the preparation takes a lot of work as they use only fresh ingredients -peeling then blending ingredients takes more than three hours and preparing the broth takes another two hours. From their menu we would highly recommend the Laksa with Crispy Pork, Lobster Balls, Nasi Lemak with Crispy Chicken, Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang and their 3 layer coffee.
