My first patch and performance with the mantra ii. This patch is based heavily on “Offshore” that Teo from Serge performs. I’ve found many nuances to the patch that I attempt to expose and “play” to find feedback and filter harmonies, but also dissonance and snaps. I’m in love with the overtones and spent hours after setting up the patch exploring the possibilities. I’m intentionally exposing how the patch can be expressed in a performative way to show how various sections modulate the sound.

After a few hours of play last night I had an ecstatic experience I’ve never had. Sonically after removing my headphones my ambient environment was acoustically transformed. I don’t know how to describe this except to say that sonically, perhaps because of my deep attenuation to the soundscapes and dynamics being produced, everything around me took on a heightened, alien presence. I’ve never experienced anything like it. Quite pleasant and also shocking!

The sonic character of the serge is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It makes my other eurorack feel cheap and childlike in its limitations. I’m fully committed to giving you more of this content as I explore patches. I hope to replicate more serge branded patches and explore their sonic qualities. Enjoy!
