Grandmaster Pan Qing Fu - 潘清福 - performing his most favourite weapon, the Double Handed Chinese Long Straight Sword. Along with his “Iron Fist” he was very famous for his skill with this weapon.
It’s very rare to see it used and even more rare to find someone who could teach it. Pan’s good friend and co-star in the Movie “Shaolin Temple”, Yu Cheng Hui also was famous for this sword, however he created a Mantis style influenced version of it. When I asked Grandmaster Pan what style he practiced, he just said “Northern Style”.

This is a very special video and style to him. Other than when he performed it publicly in China, he essentially kept this and the other videos of him private until his death. He shared this and the others with me once or twice a year during special celebrations like his birthday or Christmas. I would look forward for months until the next time I could see them.

Pan was one of the last true old school fighting masters. He was an important contributor to today's "Kung Fu" and also one of the pioneers of what became today's performance "Wushu". He rooted all of his styles and movements in real fighting and fought in the ring and on streets along with his forms training and innovation.
He passed away in 2017, a true martial artist, experienced in the culture, art and combat aspects of Chinese Kung Fu.

I'm proud that he was my Master for almost 30 years and I'm grateful to be his disciple.
