How Trusses Are Made (Factory Tour)

Today we take you to Nuneaton Roof Truss to show you How Trusses Are Made!

There's a lot that goes into making a roof Truss and it all starts with the concept so we start our journey at the Nuneaton offices where Hope the Design Office Manager is able to produce a 3D render of the roof truss prior to its creation where we can find out the weight of each truss and in order to make sure we are prepared for the delivery on site.

We then head over to the factory where Stef the general manager greets us and gives us a tour of the facility. We begin our tour at the timber yard where we find out that Nuneaton only use sustainable sourced timber that falls in line with FSC guidelines. They use a T26 Structure Pine Timber with an average artic load of 25 tonnes.

The timber is tallied up to each order and we find out that Nuneaton takes on 100 jobs on average a month. We then take a look at the Hundegger Turbo Drive Saw that automates much of the truss cutting process to minimise waste and produce more Trusses!

The cut wood then has the option of being treated with a wood preserver called Vascol which protects the wood from bug infestations from woodlice, beetles etc. This treated wood is handled very carefully because it's illegal to dispose of treated wood due to the chemicals present in the wood preserver posing a significant risk to human health and to the environment.

The wood is then brought over to the fabrication side where it is the Trusses truly take shape and are placed together ready to be loaded and sent off for delivery.
