Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya was founded in 1969, by a group of public- spirited men led by Vidya Seva Ratnam Sri. K. Santhanam. It was named Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya as it was founded in the Birth Centenary year of our Father Mahatma Gandhi on 3rd August 1969. It was due to the efforts of Sri. K. Santhanam and his proper husbandry of resources that the present school at 35, Tennur High Road, was acquired in 1978.

MGCV is a co-educational institution affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. Classes are conducted from the pre-primary level up to X standard. The student strength is around 1500 and there are about 70 teachers in this school. The teacher pupil ratio is 1:1.5. The school has excellent learning atmosphere as the infrastructure is up to the mark.

With a perfect blend of traditional values and modern teaching methods like the smart class, this school has ideal classrooms, an auditorium, a well – maintained Library and Laboratories for subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science. The Computer lab has 21 terminals with multimedia connectivity. Students are taught how to operate computer from class III.

A fleet of vans ply for the transport of students from specified locations in the town. It has been rendering its yeoman service to the population of Tennur and the surrounding areas. In the year 2019 it marked its 50th significant golden jubilee year since its foundation.

There is much to celebrate with gratitude and give credit for the successful administration and financial management of the school to its Founder Secretary Sri. K. Santhanam. It is a golden opportunity for the MGCVians to remember, reminisce and be filled with pride and honour for their accomplishments and achievements.
