It's interesting how many games were playing around with Speech Synthesis in the first few years of the 80's. We saw voice modules for the Intellivision and Odyssey 2, and various videogames began introducing speech. It was just a novelty and popular commodity for a brief time.

Well, Berzerk had its own creepy robotic speech synthesis which I think went a long way to making it memorable to this day.

The gameplay is pretty straight-forward and easy to pickup, but provides enough challenge in just a few levels. The robots are dumb, and you can trick them into shooting each other, or running into walls. Each board has the option of quickly running away, or shooting all the robots for extra bonus. The one big caveat is that if you linger too long, Crazy Otto makes his appearance… a creepy emoticon that smiles as he comes to stomp out your life.

The simple gameplay and graphics lent easily to home console & computer ports. The Berzerk-style gameplay getting copied into all sorts of titles on different systems. But the arcade remains a classic! it had this slightly creepy vibe, with the great voice and great sound effects… something you couldn't find on any home system at the time. Another coin-op videogame great.
