Hydraulics, auxiliary power units (APU), and aircraft landing gear all rolled off Adam Mohammad Amer's tongue as though he’d been flying planes for years. In fact, it’s fair to say the six year old had never sat in a cockpit before—let alone captained a flight—but has a certain genius for understanding the complex functions that make planes fly.
“If your plane is banking right, you reduce engine one and increase engine two,” he said in a viral video that, since it was posted a few weeks ago, has garnered nearly 140,000 views. The video was captured by Etihad Captain Samer Yakhlef on a flight from Morocco to Abu Dhabi, after Etihad crew invited Adam into the cockpit.
Weeks after the initial flight, Adam was again invited into the cockpit—but this time, to play pilot for a day. Yep, that's right: Etihad Airways, the second-largest airline in the United Arab Emirates, decided to give Adam a shot at flying the world’s largest passenger plane, the Airbus A380.
