Mudlarking - from the River Thames to the Cornish Coast - basking shark and surfing!

Описание к видео Mudlarking - from the River Thames to the Cornish Coast - basking shark and surfing!

Join me as I take a trip back to my roots in Cornwall, where my love of beachcombing and collecting driftwood on the beautiful Cornish beaches, planted the seeds of my love of mudlarking along the banks of the River Thames (urban beachcombing), when I moved to London in 1998.

Growing up in Cornwall I was surrounded by the wide open spaces of the vast unspoiled beaches and cliffs, and I try to go back to visit at least twice a year to breathe in the salty air and swim in the deliciously cold and fresh sea! (you can tell I miss it can't you).

My artwork is also very much inspired by the Cornish coast and several of the artists who once lived there - Alfred Wallis, Margaret Mellis, Bryan Pearce.

On this occasion, I took a trip in December of 2018 and stayed with Sue and Adrian Brough, who run a marvellous bed and breakfast in Lelant called the Old Farmhouse.

Adrian Brough is a potter and as he showed me round his pottery, it struck me how little has changed since 4500 BC, when the first potters wheel came into being. I remembered some Roman pottery I had found in the mud in 2013, and it was fascinating to compare it with the creations of a modern day potter such as Adrian Brough, whose creations are in part inspired by his love of the Cornish coast.

As well as indulging in some stream larking, I had fun splashing around in the sea, and observing the stunning views and wildlife. Although London is now my home, Cornwall is a place dear to my heart and I have many precious memories there.

I hope you enjoy this trip back to my childhood home with me.
