2012-2016: An Extreme Metal Renaissance

It should be no surprise to anyone that I hold the years of 2012-2016 in high regard when it comes to metal music. There's a chance that this is due to personal bias. I started listening to extreme metal around this time, I had copious amounts of time as a college student, and I felt like I was truly keeping up with new releases. Well, it's been about 10 years since this era, and I feel like the albums and bands not only hold up but issued in a renaissance of extreme metal for some of the bigger metal subgenres. In fact, I feel so strongly about this, that the purpose of this video is to make some key points as to why this is an important era for metal! I think it should be dubbed as a renaissance period and I feel really lucky to have started in this era and cut my teeth on the bands and releases that I talk about in this video.
