Myslovitz — Melancholy, Rock, and the Voice of a Generation

Myslovitz is one of Poland’s most important rock bands, known for their melancholic sound, introspective lyrics, and unmistakable presence on the alternative music scene. Formed in 1992 in the industrial city of Mysłowice — from which the band takes its name — Myslovitz quickly became a voice for a generation growing up in the shadow of Poland’s transformation. Their music, full of nostalgia and emotional depth, continues to resonate with listeners to this day.
The band’s original lineup featured Artur Rojek (vocals, guitar), Wojciech Powaga (guitar), Przemysław Myszor(keyboards, guitar, lyrics), and brothers Jacek and Wojciech Kuderski (bass and drums). From the start, their blend of melodic guitar-driven rock and poetic lyrics set them apart from the heavy, raw rock dominating Poland’s 1990s music scene. Drawing inspiration from britpop, shoegaze, and alternative rock, they introduced a fresh, authentic sound.
Their 1995 self-titled debut caught critics’ attention, but the breakthrough came with Miłość w czasach popkultury(Love in the Time of Pop Culture, 1999). The album became a landmark of Polish rock, selling over 150,000 copies and producing classics like “Długość dźwięku samotności” and “Chłopcy” — songs that perfectly captured the alienation and yearning of late-90s youth.
Myslovitz’s introspective lyrics, written by Rojek and Myszor, and their atmospheric yet powerful sound turned them into one of the most beloved bands of their time. Their next albums — Korova Milky Bar (2002) and Happiness Is Easy(2006) — deepened their reputation as thoughtful and innovative artists, and even brought them to international stages, including tours in Germany and appearances at festivals like Roskilde.
In 2012, Rojek left to pursue solo projects, and the band continued with new singers, releasing 1.577 (2013) and returning to touring with a refreshed lineup.
Myslovitz remains a cornerstone of Polish alternative rock, inspiring countless bands and leaving an enduring mark on listeners who grew up with their music. Their ability to translate emotion, longing, and everyday struggles into unforgettable melodies makes them a timeless voice of Polish rock.
