Tinning in the Flat

Описание к видео Tinning in the Flat

Many of my videos talk about “building in the flat” or “tinning in the flat” which means starting with the flat sheet metal – copper or tin plate to create or to tin before building.

Other methods of forming copper can range from spinning to pressing to deep-forming. However, building in the flat is the traditional method of creating copper goods dating back several hundred years, and is the method I use when building custom copper requests.

Because the tools used are also from the early 1800s in my shop, I am required to use no thicker than 16oz copper to build, as anything thicker would break irreplaceable machines.

Here’s an example of how to tin a copper piece, using additional heat methods to make the tin solder run properly for a smoother finish.
