Life is not easy as a post 65’ heritage building in the Netherlands.

Chances are high you’ve already been either demolished, transformed beyond recognition, or, most likely, seen as an ugly chunk of concrete by the people that were supposed to admire you.

But there are buildings that escaped this fate.
The Centraal Beheergebouw in Apeldoorn (also called De Rots) has been lucky – after years of decaying and jumping from one private investor to the other, it has finally been purchased by the municipality of Apeldoorn, which seems to appreciate its unique architectural character.

Plans for repurposing the building are consulted with the architect himself, who even got his own statue in Apeldoorn.

If De Rots will actually get a happy ending, we’ll have to see in a few years. For now, let’s admire its past grandeur, still noticeable behind the shattered glass and surrounding razor wire.
