The rangeways exist forever and are the "Dirty Little Secret" the township of Paris and West Paris Maine don't want you to know about.

What are rangeways?

On November 4, 1773 when the Proprietors were lotting out the township, they held a meeting at Coolidge Tavern in Watertown Massachusetts and they voted that there be reserved for the use of the proprietors their heirs and assigns forever two rods in width on the eastward side of every range line through the length of the township for the conveniency of ways if it shall be needed, establishing rangeways to prevent landlocking and segregation in the township of Paris and West Paris.

As landowners in the township of Paris and West Paris, WE are the Assigns of the Proprietors and their Heirs. The Rangeways belong to all of us, to everyone in our community! There is a public process for a town to get rid of a Rangeway, however due to the wording, these Rangeways exist Forever in our community and township of Paris and West Paris. Even if the township of Paris and West Paris conducted a joint public process for the removal of the Rangeways that exist Forever, in both towns in our community, it would be impossible to remove the Rangeways, as the Rangeways exist, Forever. Forever is Forever!
