Manatee and Dolphin Kayak Tour! Indian River, Merritt Island, Florida

We went on a kayak tour in the Indian River with BK Adventure

We were on Merritt Island in Florida, which is located on the east coast of Florida near the Kennedy Space Center. It's about an hour east of Orlando. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is actually part of land owned by NASA, and tour groups and individuals are allowed to use the area for recreation.


The tour we went on was a 2 hour kayak tour with hopes of seeing manatees and dolphins, as well as other wildlife.



As soon as we started, we saw a lot of dolphin out in the river. I don't think the video captured them unfortunately.

There was an alligator on the bank of the river that was pointed out to us, but fortunately we never came close enough to actually see it.

We also saw plenty of manatees and learned how to spot them when they're underwater. They leave a trail of two circles, known as "manatee footsteps", which you can see at 9:33 in the video.
We saw a few Osprey and various other birds as well.


Our guide, Kamary, was awesome and did a great job at showing us what to look for to spot the manatees, and taught us about the mangroves that were surrounding us as well!

(And if you're lucky, your tour might even coincide with a rocket launch, where you could see a launch from about the closest view possible!). (One was scheduled during our tour but got scrubbed for weather unfortunately).


Everyone wore masks during the safety and instructional meeting before our tour (There were only 9 people including our guide on the tour), but we removed them once we got out on the water and were distant
