Pilot Mountain State Park in North Carolina is iconic. It has the signature "knob" visible for miles, a road to the base of the knob and a trail around the knob (Jomeokee Trail). It also has good trails following Pilot Creek, and a southern part of the park that is much less visited and a very nice Ivy Bluff Trail for families.
