This temple’s vigraha turned towards a devotee. Yes, we are now in Udupi, and I’m talking about Udupi Shree Krishna Matha, one of the most auspicious temples dedicated to God Krishna. This temple is more than 700 years old. In fact, it is not a single temple; it’s a temple complex with many temples near this matha.
The history of Kanakana Kindi goes like this: In the 16th century, Hindu saint Kanakadasa was denied entry to the Krishna temple due to his lower caste status. In response, Kanakadasa stood behind the temple, sang a song praising God Krishna, and miraculously, the vigraha moved and rotated itself towards Kanakadasa, creating a big hole in the wall. The hole, through which Kanakadasa saw the vigraha, still exists today and is known as the Kanakana Kindi.
