The Respectful Rematriation and Repatriation Ceremony involves returning Indigenous Ancestors and Belongings - that were taken and/or held by the university without consent - to First Nations, Inuit and Métis descendant communities.

On June 3, 2024, the University of Manitoba will publicly apologize for our history related to the inappropriate acquisition and housing of Indigenous ancestral remains, burial belongings, and cultural heritage without consent.

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend this significant event to witness this apology and to learn about a new policy and procedures created to acknowledge this history; ensure that Respectful Rematriation and Repatriation are completed; and prevent against future acquisition, stewardship, or use of Indigenous ancestral remains, burial belongings, and cultural heritage at the university without consent.
