On opening night of the 1999-00 season, Grant Hill had 23 points at the end of regulation against the Miami Heat in a game that was headed to overtime. Needless to say, Hill carried his Pistons team in the ensuing OT and Double-OT periods, finishing with 41 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Unfortunately for him, it wouldn't be enough to overcome Miami that night, losing 128 to 122 at the end of the second overtime. Hill was unguardable as ever in this game, amounting 41 on primary defenders Jamal Mashburn, Dan Majerle and occasionally P.J. Brown. The first two fouled out of the game, amassing a combined 12 fouls. Hill scored zero in the first half and only had 5 points going into halftime. He scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished 4 assists in the 3rd and 4th quarters, and then scored all 9 points in OT for the Pistons to send it to double OT. He would again score 9 in the second overtime, but wouldn't be enough for a seasoning opening W.
