Mount Alice via Hourglass Ridge and Boulder-Grand Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

My solo climb of Mt Alice via the Hourglass Ridge with descent via Boulder-Grand Pass in Rocky Mountain National Park. Starting from Wild Basin TH, the first 6 miles of the hike was in dense forest with not much to see. The views opened up drastically after Lion Lake #1, and the next 7 miles was filled with off-trail scramble and some route finding challenges. The Hourglass Ridge and the north face of Alice are not technical. It’s mainly class 2/2+, with a couple of spots approaching class 3. The challenge of this route is mainly the length and amount of elevation gain. On the return, I descended via Boulder-Grand Pass (so named since it sits on the border between the two counties) which was loose but not terrible, and it's relatively short. The valley between Lake of Many Winds and Thunder Lake was quite serene and beautiful. I only ran into one other hiker after Lion Lakes and didn’t see another person until the Lion Lake/Thunder Lake split many miles later. Total stats: 18 miles with 5000ft elevation gain
