Today we're taking a look at the buzzer that came off of the Dover elevator at the building demolition.

The buzzer is a Star Micronics PMB-24 mini buzzer, and this is presumably the same buzzer that is found on Dover and probably some ThyssenKrupp elevators. It's a 24 volts DC buzzer. These buzzers produce a sound which is well known and loved among people in the elevator community.

This buzz was used on many Dovers manufactured between the 1980's up until 2001 when Dover merged with ThyssenKrupp. After the merger, TK continued to use the Dover buzz (not sure if it was necessarily this model) on its elevators up until 2011 or so when they began using the new "grocery beep" which is a lot more pleasant to the ears. These buzzers can be found on Dovers with Impulse fixtures and later Traditional fixtures. The other floor passing chime Dover used, especially in the 80's, was the "bird chirp". Even Dovers which use the bird chirp as the floor passing chime have the buzzer, but it's only used for nudge mode and fire service recall.

Simplex also used these on their fire alarm panels. This buzzer is found on the Simplex 4001, 4002, and 4100 fire alarm control panels, as well as the 4602 and 4603 series remote annunicators.

I actually have 7 of the RMB-24 models I bought off of eBay a few years back. Those are identical to this, just round.
