Sheila, a 24 year old African lioness, was the last remaining member of a long and distinguished family tree of African lions living in Dublin Zoo stretching back over 125 years.

Faced with the loss of the oldest cat in the Zoo, an animal whose death marks a milestone in Dublin Zoo's history, it was a sad day for all the team at Dublin Zoo, who gathered at the lion habitat to say goodbye, many of whom, such as Gerry and Helen, had known her since she was a cub.
