Coed y Brenin - the ORIGINAL BLACK TRAIL (Tarw Du)

Every year, I spend a week with my buddy Matt in Wales sampling some familiar and some new trails/bike parks to push our skills and comfort zones to the max! Today was our third day in Wales and at one of our favourite trail centres Coed-y-Brenin, which is in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park.

The Tarw Du (say Taroo Dee – Black Bull), is a true BLACK trail. It was not only the original trail built in Coed y Brenin, but it was also the first, purpose built mountain bike trail in the UK, and probably the world! It’s a Black graded trail and is 20.2km long that should tack from 1.5-3 Hours.
It includes some epic, gnarly and technical single track that will test you to your limits and also includes the infamous Y SLAB! This is a section of the trail starting pretty much at the summit and consists of x3 big steep slabs that are surprisingly grippy, just don’t use your front brake too hard!

As the UK’s first & largest dedicated mountain bike trail centre, Coed y Brenin not only has miles of exceptional singletrack for experienced and expert riders, but also great family and intermediate trails for all abilities.
