I love fishing and it only gets better when I'm catching fish with my friends!

I couldn't believe it when Zander Mate told me he had never caught a Grunter before, AKA Die Knorhaan, and the situation was made even more perplexing as he lives in Swellendam, a beautiful quaint town set on the banks of the upper Breede River. We needed to change this predicament urgently and there was only one thing to do, take Zander FISHING on the beautiful BREEDE RIVER!

Mother nature spoilt us with warm, glassy conditions and almost no wind the entire day, perfect for chasing these fussy fish.

We left Swellendam at sparrows, got Sylvester fueled-up and prepped and before we knew it she was flying us down river at the break of dawn on pristinely smooth water.

We managed to quickly gather some bait, consisting of mud prawns for Grunter and live mullet for anything bigger where after we soon got stuck into things...

Straight off the bat we hooked into a great fish, a nice COB, AKA Mulloway/ Kabeljou/Kob, on light tackle. Sadly it chaffed through the delicate Grunter leader with its loosely placed sharp teeth after a decent 5min bully session, but would you believe a decent class COB would eat a tiny mud prawn?

Thereafter we worked our way down closer to WITSAND at the river's mouth and started catching plenty SPOTTED GRUNTER.

Really glad we made an awesome day mission as little did we know this would be our last FREE weekend before the SOUTH AFRICA 3 WEEK Corona Virus lockdown which has since been extended to 5 weeks.
