DAY 18 | 26 DAY NATURAL BREATHING CHALLENGE

This guided breathing and deep muscle relaxation practice is focused on combining diaphragmatic breathing and slow breathing while gently releasing tension throughout the body.

When we have a dysfunctional breathing pattern or tend to over-breathe, it’s common to become very breathing vigilant - thinking about the breath a lot - while the muscles in the body gradually become tighter and more guarded. This tension can make breathing feel even more restricted and effortful.

This practice is designed to support you in letting go of tension in the body, while continuing to practise slow, diaphragmatic breathing. By softening the body first, we create the conditions for breathing to feel more natural, calm, and less forced.

If you’ve been breathing faster or more shallowly for a while, learning to slow your breathing can feel a little uncomfortable at first. You may notice air hunger rising during practice — this is a normal sign that your brain is learning to tolerate slower, more efficient breathing patterns. With practice, time, and support, this becomes much more comfortable and you’ll notice the air hunger and urge to take big breaths reduces.

Allow yourself this time to slow down, lie comfortably, and fully relax into the practice. Take breaks whenever you need, and feel free to adjust your position, posture, or setup so it feels supportive for your body.
