US Senator Elizabeth Warren and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent got into a heated argument during the latter's testimony on economy before a Senate committee. Warren asked Bessent about the affordability crisis and Trump's choice of Fed chair Kevin Warsh.

The Treasury Secretary refused to rule out the possibility of Trump administration using Warsh if he did not cut rates as per the president's liking.

Senator Elizabeth Warren pressed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on a report in The Wall Street Journal suggesting that President Donald Trump had joked about suing his nominee for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, if Warsh failed to comply with presidential demands.

“Mr. Secretary, can you commit right here and now that Trump’s Fed nominee, Kevin Warsh, will not be sued or investigated by the Department of Justice if he doesn’t cut interest rates exactly the way Donald Trump wants?” Warren asked.

Bessent declined to make such a commitment, responding simply, “That is up to the president.”
