Killian & Petra O Flattery - Stonemasons - BallyKnockan Granite

Having set up my own Masonry Conservation company in mid 2023 and taken my Sister Petra on as my Apprentice we have been delighted to add to our craft not only in the work we do but by bringing awareness to it to the wider community. Myself and my sister Petra are 8th Generation Stonemasons from the Granite Village of Ballyknockan Co. Wicklow. Petra is the First registered Female Stonemason Apprentice in Ireland in over 30 years and a recent finalist at the World Skills. In 2022 I was nominated for craftsperson of the year in the under 30s category in the SPAB Heritage Awards . (Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings), I was the first ever Irish Nominee to be put forward for nomination in the competition of applicants from England,Ireland,Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland and made it to the top 4. In 2023 I have also gone on to win the Design Craft Council of Ireland Future Makers award. both myself and Petra were speakers at the Heritage 2030 Summit on October 25th and we recently won the Heritage Council County award for Wicklow for the Heritage week event we held celebrating the bicentenary of Ballyknockan's rich masonry and quarrying history.
