Finally picked up Untold during the holidays, and that means another solo run! As with Etrian Odyssey IV, I'm keeping the run as blind as I can. I have played the original back in 2007, but so far everything but the music seems unfamiliar. This is mostly filler video while I get the run going.

Browsing through the classes, I was torn between the Protector and the Survivalist. The Survivalist has a few neat tools; evasion skills, AGI up, preemptive boost, TP on dodge, and some great damage skills. Evasion was a huge factor in my success for Etrian Odyssey IV, so there may be great potential there.

The Protector has tons of Defense and HP boosts, a temporary max HP increase (unfamiliar with for now), elemental walls, turn immunities, Cure, an Attack down AOE, Aegis to survive mortal blows, and my personal favorite memory of my Etrain Odyssey II Beast, En Garde. Tough choice between the two, but in the spirit of my Fortress from the previous game, I went with the Protector. I have no idea how the Grimoire system functions yet other than you can get skills outside your class. That may open up a lot of versatility for the Protector.

I had a lot of growing pains starting out. I think I have died more times on the first floor than I have throughout the whole game in Etrian Odyssey IV. Enemies hit hard, and large groups are devastating. My most efficient means of health at the moment are spamming Medica. I have no means of TP recovery yet, so I reserve it for Fortify during tougher battles, and Cure for outside encounter recovery. My grind to level 15 was mostly done on the first floor. I have survived a few battles on the 2nd in attempt to gather useful materials, but they require specific enemy setups. I have been exploring the second floor and running from most encounters, trying to survive my way to the shortcuts.

The encounter: Bloody One-Arm is the first quest boss I have been given. Not much to this strategy since my toolset is extremely limited. He attacks every other turn, giving me opportunity to set up Fortify or heal. He uses harder-hitting skills as his HP drops, but nothing I could not recover from. I was hoping for some useful materials from the quest, but it unfortunately only unlocked an axe I cannot wield. More exciting encounters are (hopefully) forthcoming as I continue my solo journey!
