People of the Lonely Star: Jews in The Caribbean

Описание к видео People of the Lonely Star: Jews in The Caribbean

Normally one does not associate the Caribbean with Judaism, and historians have written about slavery, sugar production, and plantocracy in the region, but they have devoted little attention to the Jewish community in the Caribbean. Nevertheless, the Jewish community has had a very important and rich history that began with the immigration of Jews from Holland in the Caribbean in the 17th century. This program, led by retired professor Leslie Desmangles, will review some of the history of Jewish life and practice in the Caribbean.
