Which 3x3 Cube is Best? Gan 13 Maglev vs Tornado V3 Pioneer 2023
GDT Cuber Tested both the Gan 13 maglev and Tornado V3 Pioneer Rubik’s cube for weeks. They both make great speedcubes and both have maglev technology. This was by far the hardest comparison out of all the cubes we have tested so far.
In order to really decide which cube was going to make the best speed cube. We decided to break them down by their specifications and then evaluate which ones actually made a difference. Lets start with the Gan 13 Maglev.
I am going to walk you through everything we looked at. As well as give you a price comparison of both cubes. At the end we will give you are final decision based on all the details we looked at.

Gan 13 Maglev

The Gan 13 maglev has 88 magnets with 8 in the core, 12 edges are used to repel off the core magnets. While the corners use 8 magnets to attract. Along with 12 magnets in its maglev system.
The Gan 13 also use 48 magnets in its pieces. The Gan 13 maglev has a dual adjustment system for improving the tension and elasticity. Along with 6 adjustments for the magnets. Giving it a total of 216 unique adjustments.
The Gan’s core uses a step type pole to connect the center pieces. This is made to help prevent pops. However, we found not all its adjustments were usable.

Gan’s Adjustment System

Out of the box, the Gan 13 maglev couldn’t corner cut at 55°. Also, the assisted alignment barely worked. Even corner cutting at 45° took a lot of force.
More than what would be useful when speedcubing. Rather than writing the Gan 13 off right away we decided to make some adjustments. We finally found that a center adjustment of 5-2 worked really well.
It gave the cube optimal corner cutting. Along with a very good, assisted alignment. However, when we tried the cube at 6-1, the looses settings. The cube fell to pieces while turning.
Magnets
We also had to set the magnets to the strongest settings for the assisted alignment. Although this didn’t change the feel of the cube much. It did make it a lot easier to control. Overall, the magnetic strength is really good on this cube.
When we took the cube apart, we noticed each edge piece had a magnet that repelled the core magnets. While the corner piece magnets attracted. It’s really a great system, when it comes to holding alignment through fast turning.

Tornado V3 Pioneer

The Tornado V3 Pioneer, is also maglev. With 76 magnets that are moderately strong. It uses 8 core magnets and 8 corner to core attracting magnets. It also has 12 maglev magnets. Along with 48 magnets in its pieces.
The Tornado V3 Pioneer uses a 5-5-5 adjustment system. 5 tension settings, 5 elasticity settings and 5 magnetic systems. Every setting we tested out on this cube just worked.
While there were no surprises with it. We also didn’t notice a big difference either. The corner magnets are good and work at every setting. Overall this is a good cube right out of the box.
Corner Cutting
The V3 has much better corner cutting at the start. It’s clearly made to be an amazing speedcube. It also has quickly become a favorite for many speedcubers.
The corner cutting work above 45° with no issues and didn’t take much force. The downside is the magnets. While they work as expected. After feeling the assisted alignment while turning the Gan 13.
You realize the Tornado doesn’t have the same strength of magnets.
Both cubes have great turning, while the corner cutting is better on the Tornado V3. However, the Gan 13 has alignment assist, which means its magnetic strength is a little stronger than that of the Tornado V3.

The biggest difference between the 2 is the price. The Gan 13 maglev sells for around $80.00 and the Tornado V3 Pioneer sells for around $40.00. Gan uses a slightly better technology, but the results are so similar it's hard to say it's a better cube.

Conclusion
Overall GDT Cuber preferred the Gan 13 maglev. However, the Tornado V3 Pioneer won in more categories, giving it the win. Out of the box the Gan took adjusting to live up to what it claims in corner cutting and magnetic assist.

While the Tornado V3 pioneer worked great right from the start and didn't require any adjustments. The Gan adjustment system made a far more dramatic change to the cube.

Gan cubes have a more lightweight airy feel while turning, while the Tornado has more of a buttery feel. Both are smooth but the Gan has a little less friction.
