China Scholarship Council (CSC)

China is generous in its educational policies and scholarships for its students – both national and international. The Government wants to improve education and give everyone a fair chance at a good quality education that can change their lives and the world.

Are you planning to study in China? China offers scholarships in 279 Chinese universities for international students alone every year. The Chinese Scholarship Council CSC also known as Chinese government scholarships awards the scholarships in its various affiliated universities exclusively for international students. Interested students can apply for the CSC scholarship between December and April, according to the last dates specified by the concerned university.

China offers three different scholarships for its foreign students to ensure more students can study in some of the best universities in China. They are:

Chinese Government Scholarships – CSC Scholarships.
Chinese University Scholarships.
Private Scholarships
Let’s take a detailed look at the Chinese government's CSC Scholarships generously offered to its foreign students.

Types Of CSC Scholarships
279 universities are covered under this scholarship provided by the Chinese government. There are four types of scholarships that the government offers its foreign students in these 279 universities:

Type A – Bilateral Program – A partial or full scholarship offered for undergraduates, graduates, general and senior scholars and awarded to students from countries with consensus and educational exchange agreements with the Chinese Government.
Type B – Chinese University Program – A full scholarship offered for graduate students. It is awarded only by designated Chinese universities and provincial education offices in autonomous regions or selective provinces. The aim is to recruit outstanding international students for the graduate programs offered by these selected universities.
Designated Program – Another full scholarship awarded by the Chinese Ministry of Education to help UNESCO sponsor talented students from developing countries to conduct research or study in China for free. The scholarship supports only general and senior scholars.
Student Exchange Program – The exchange program is designed for both general and senior scholars for a maximum period of 12 months. The applicant will have to apply with both the Chinese government and the foreign partner. This program is based on the exchange and cooperation agreements between the foreign partners and the Chinese government.

Who Can Apply
To apply for the CSC scholarships, you need to meet the following requirements:

Must be a citizen of a country apart from PRC (People’s Republic of China).
Must be healthy – both mentally and physically.
If applying for a program taught in languages other than Chinese, you must meet the specific university’s requirements for language proficiency, academic qualifications, and others.
Undergraduate program - Must be below 25 years and have an excellent high school diploma or an equivalent
Masters Program - Must be below 35 years and have an excellent Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent.
Doctoral Program – Must be below 40 years and have an excellent Master’s degree or an equivalent.
General Scholar Program – Must be below 45 years and have a high school diploma or a higher educational qualification.
Senior Scholar program – Must be below 50 years and have a master’s degree or be an associate professor.
Chinese-taught undergraduate programs/General scholars program– Should have passed the level 3 HSK during application.
Chinese-taught senior scholars programs – Should have passed the level 4 HSK during application.
Chinese-taught postgraduate programs – Should have passed the level 5 HSK during application.
