Yesterday, a series of nominations to the House of Lords were confirmed. Twenty-five went to Labour, which is a massive number that we will come back to. Three went to the Conservatives, who until recently ran the entire country. Five went to the Liberal Democrats, who have seventy-two MPs compared to Reform's five but who also happen to be traditional establishment darlings. And Reform UK, the party that won four million votes at the last election, that secured five parliamentary seats, that is currently leading national opinion polls by such margins that psephologists are running out of superlatives, got precisely zero. Not one. Nothing. Nada. They were completely frozen out.

Now, this is not the first time we have discussed this issue, because Reform's exclusion from the House of Lords has been brewing for months. Back in August, Nigel Farage wrote to Keir Starmer laying out a perfectly reasonable case for why his party deserved some representation in the upper chamber. He pointed out that Reform has MPs, has significant public support, and that parties with less electoral success than Reform have Lords representation. It was not a demanding letter. It was not threatening. It was a straightforward request for basic acknowledgment that Reform UK exists and represents millions of British voters. And the response from Number Ten?
