Lithium ion batteries can be approximated with a very simple voltage source and resistance model. This circuit is then solved as a function of load power for the electrical parameters (voltage/current/ and power dissipation). These solutions can be propagated forward with a numerical solver to simulate the electrical response of a battery and predict its temperature. The OCV vs SOC curve is introduced and then modified to show how the load voltage varies with charge and discharge.

This is a new topic for precision stuff and I hope to add more battery related content in the future. If you are building FSAE racecar batteries this equation is the core of your battery simulator and the rest is just getting the data.
