We continue our journey in Kyrgyzstan from Karakol towards the Yurt camp on the shore of Lake Issik-Kul. We will see a lively animal market, the picturesque Yeti-Oguz valley with the Broken Heart and Seven Bulls rocks, and the fairytale Skazka Canyon.
Located a few kilometers from the center of Karakol, and open only on Sundays, the animal market is an interesting place and gives a good insight into the culture and lifestyle of the local people. Among the stalls of tightly tethered livestock are pushed people who have come to examine and bargain for the offered animals, trying out horses with a short test trot or estimating the weight of the fat on the sheep's back.
From Karakol, we head towards the Yeti-Oguz valley and its attractions Broken Heart and Seven Bulls Rocks, natural sculptures made of tertiary red conglomerate. We walked along a scenic route with amazing views of the red environment.
Moving along the south coast of Issyk-Kul Lake we found ourselves in the valley of fairytales. Skazka canyon is known for its unique rock formations and vibrant colors, resembling a landscape out of a fairy tale, which is how it got its name. It is a natural site that was likely known to local people for a long time before becoming a point of interest for tourists. The area became more widely recognized and popular among travelers in recent years as tourism in Kyrgyzstan grew.
