Canon 70D tip #6: Using Digital Zoom

Using digital zoom on your Canon EOS 70D is easy!

Why use it? It enables you to capture a movie using a smaller area of the image sensor than normal. Let´s say you don´t have a powerful zoom lense, you can use digital zoom to compensate for that little extra you need to do. it´s similar to cropping a part of the frame.

The steps?
1. Power on the camera
2. Set to Movie mode (you cannot use digital zoom in photography mode)
3. Set the movie size to 1920 x 1080 resolution - as it is a crop of the sensor, the higher the resolution, the better. It is also the only resolution that allows digital zoom.

4. Enable Digital Zoom via the menu or the Quick Control screen.

5. Use the Multi-controller to control the digital zoom. Up to zoom in; press down to zoom out.

6. Start recording!
