Video demonstrates the functionality and discusses the parts associated with the first version of what I am currently referring to as the 'Close but Not Too Close' Robot. I built this robot as a means of developing and testing a simple software routine that will (assuming all goes well) mimic one of the behaviors of, e.g., a suspicious but nonetheless curious kitten or puppy. Such creatures will often allow one's hand to get close, but not too close. The plan is to eventually add a 'close but not too close' sort of routine to the behavioral repertoire of a two wheeled 'floor sweeper' style robot. I always enjoy the challenge of trying to make robots more 'live creature-like', this is one such attempt.
