Respect is part of the band’s ongoing commitment to performing the best soul classics and usually features in the later part (or second half) of the band’s setlist when performing live.

A little history, the song "Respect" was originally written and recorded by Otis Redding in 1965. His version was a plea from a man to a woman for respect after he comes home from work. In 1967, Aretha Franklin and her sisters (Erma and Carolyn) however completely transformed the song. They rearranged the music, flipped the gender perspective, and added new lyrics and iconic ad-libs.

Franklin's version became a powerful demand for respect from a woman, not a plea. The famous "R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me" and the "sock it to me" phrases were all Franklin's additions. This reinterpretation turned the song into a landmark anthem for both the civil rights movement and the women's liberation movement, resonating with a much wider audience than Redding's original.
