Royal Caribbean's NEWEST Ship - the Utopia! The Utopia of the Seas: The World's Biggest Weekend is the world's second largest cruise ship behind the Icon of the Seas. It is the sixth ship in the Oasis Class and entered service on July 19, 2024 out of Port Canaveral, so we were on the 4th sailing in the Inaugural Season on this cruise ship on August 5, 2024!
This vlog shows a full tour of the ship - decks 2 - 18 deck by deck! (Including the exclusive 18th floor Suite Sun Deck!)
I will mention them throughout, but I also made more in detail vlogs about the following aspects of the Utopia: Food and Bars, Shows, Activities, Perfect Day at CocoCay (focus on South Beach), and a Room Tour. The Room Tour vlog actually shows two accessible rooms since we got upgraded!
Since I have a physical disability and used a mobility scooter throughout the trip, I give accessibility review observations throughout the vlog. Three areas I zeroed in on were the public bathrooms, the automatic door buttons, and the elevators. You can judge the public bathroom for yourself, but I thought it was pretty good. One thing to note is that the one in this video was in the women's bathroom. I have seen some (justified) criticism that the Utopia lacks family care bathrooms, and this does seem like a missed opportunity for exceptional accessibility for a brand new ship. I give my review of the door buttons in the video, but I would be curious others' thoughts. Let me know in the comments!
The elevators were a big discussion point (and source of material for the comedians!) Some people didn't like the number and letter combination that appears on the screen and tells you what elevator to go to, but it would be hard to argue that this system is more efficient. Lines weren't overly long, and there weren't huge bottlenecks. Accessibility was considered since there were voiceovers, lighted symbols on the elevators for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, and the accessibility icon button allowed for longer time to enter the elevator (the doors stayed open longer), but one population that wasn't considered fully was the blindness community. Touch screens aren't fully accessible for this population, so I suggested to the Royal Caribbean team to consider improving this.

Welcome to daniellevates! The channel name is a play on the words Danielle + elevates, because this channel is all about elevating ideas about disability and rare disease through humor and adventures! Vlogs feature my adventures and include accessibility reviews. There will also be funny clips of awkward and true moments in the lives of people with disabilities and rare diseases. Since birth, I have had an extremely rare (technically undiagnosed) neuromuscular disease. Depending on how strenuous the adventure is, sometimes I use a scooter and sometimes I don’t - I simply strive to make all content as genuine as possible and to be a positive advocate for the disability and rare disease community.
