The Dual Pilgrim Quest Part 1 | Camino de Santiago: Camino Inglés

September 2023 - Walking on the Camino de Santiago on my own.

There were many caminos to choose from, my time was limited, and to qualify for the Compostela (pilgrim certificate), I needed to walk more than 100km. I initially planned to do the Camino Frances from Sarria or Coastal Camino Portugués from Vigo but thought those were just the last 100km, and it would be more meaningful if I started from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France or Porto in Portugal. So, I decided to walk on the Camino Inglés, the least popular of the Caminos, but unlike starting from Sarria or Vigo, it is a complete Camino. For it is the least popular, it is less crowded even during the high season, which means that it has the sense of peace that I usually enjoy whenever I am hiking.

They said that most people walk the Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James) for a specific reason: some do it for spiritual reasons, and some for personal reasons. It was never clear to me at first, and then it felt like the Camino called me. As I got closer to Santiago de Compostela, it became more apparent that I needed a rediscovery of the purpose of my existence.
