The Pandora Papers is a leak of almost 12 million documents that reveal hidden wealth, tax avoidance, and, in some cases, money laundering by some of the world's rich and powerful.
The data was obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in Washington DC,
which has been working on its largest-ever global investigation with more than 140 media organizations.
The Pandora Papers leak contains 6.4 million documents, nearly three million images, over a million emails, and nearly 500,000 spreadsheets.
The documents reveal how some of the world's most powerful people, including more than3 30 politicians from 90 countries, use secret offshore companies to hide their wealth. according to Lakshmi Kumar of the US think tank Global Financial Integrity, these individuals "are able to funnel and siphon money away and hide it," often through the use of anonymous companies.
as many as 380 Indians are among the global elite who have been exposed for ringfencing their wealth through shady financial transactions and hiding assets worth millions of dollars in offshore tax havens.
The Government of India is also a member of an Inter-Governmental Group that ensures collaboration and experience sharing in order to effectively address tax risks associated with such leaks,"
The names and other details of all the entities have yet to be released on the ICIJ website.
according to the ICIJ website, information will be released in stages, and structured data related to the Pandora Papers investigation will be released only in the coming days on its Offshore Leaks Database.
