In this video, made October 25th, 2023, you see the newest Koala baby at The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. You see the baby (or Joey), his mother, Mackenzie, and his father Nyoonbi. The baby is just over 7 months old.
Bulu was born March 20, 2023. The baby is a boy! His name is Bulu.

Interesting Koala facts... While sometimes they are called Koala bears, they are not bears, but marsupials. Adult male and female Koalas live solitary lives. They only spend time together during mating time. Koalas only eat Eucalyptus leaves, no other kind of leaves. They are nocturnal creatures. That is why we rarely see them walking around in the daytime. They have poor eyesight, but excellent hearing and a sense of smell.

**** THE CONSERVATION STATUS OF KOALAS IS ENDANGERED. In February of 2022, it was reported that the Australian government has officially listed the koala as endangered after a decline in it's numbers due to land clearing and catastrophic bush fires shrinking its habitat. ****

A couple sources of information on Koalas can be found at www.npr.org/2022/02/11/1080081190/koalas-endangered-australia, and www.iucnredlist.org/species/16892/166496779. There is just one species of Koala. However they are recognized as having three subspecies. That is determined by the areas they are found in. Cleveland lists their Koalas as Queensland Koalas.
