At Melbourne Natural Therapies we’ve been using low-level laser since 2006 to treat physical pain and dysfunction, and also to speed up the healing process in a number of different conditions. Each of us who uses laser therapy is a a qualified remedial or myotherapist and we’ve each completed further training in laser therapy application.

So, What Is Low Level Laser?
Low level laser is also known as cold laser or photobiomodulation, which is a bit of a mouthful, so we’ll stick to low level laser for this video.

There are a number of different types of lasers but in general for healing and pain reduction we use lasers with a range of light between 800-900nm and a power output between 100-500mw.

How Does It Work?
Low-level lasers use infrared and near-infrared light to penetrate the cells of the body and stimulate healing at the cellular level. It’s a pretty complex process which we won’t go into for this video but if you’d like to know more about the interaction between laser and our cells please read below for some great resources and links to studies.

What’s the history of Laser?
As with many modern breakthroughs it was Albert Einstein that provided the basic science and theory behind laser. But it wasn’t until the late 60’s that low level was really developed and its ability to heal tissues began to be studied in depth.

What are the Benefits?
One of the great benefits of LLLT is that it’s non-invasive, and has no known side effects when applied correctly. We don’t need to insert needles, make incisions and damage the tissue at all.

Low Level Laser can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain (such as back pain, neck pain, arthritis and tendinopathies), it can be used for wound healing, nerve regeneration, fracture healing and a number of skin disorders and wound healing.
