There are hundreds of primitives in UI design that started small—little choices made by designers—and later turned into norms used by the industry. But when building a new product, how do you decide when to go with the familiar and when to break the mold? In this talk we will explore this topic through the lens of the past, the early days of building products like Spotify and Figma, and considerations for the future.
