This was a family from Scotland that we taught how to surf this summer. The excitement and pure joy they felt while surfing was so intense it was almost palpable. John, the eldest boy, was born without any arms or legs. & the youngest brother is already a leuceimia survivor.
The eldest boy John was born without any arms or legs and he wanted to surf so we took him out and got him some awesome waves! He was very thankful and said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him and that riding a wave felt like he was flying in a dream!
The happiness that radiated out of them while they experienced surfing for the 1st time really put things into perspective for me. It reminded me how blessed & made me realize how thankful I am for everything that I have in my life.
John told me that catching his first wave felt like he was flying across the water in a dream!! It still gives me chills to remember how thankful and trusting he was! The Lord definitely helped us get John into those perfect waves that day, I could not have done it alone! Every time I was setting him up for a wave I would just pray that the wave wouldn't suck up too fast and make his board nose dive, or break to fast on top of him and knock him off his surf board! Fortunately he did not pearl (nose dive) once that day! Every wave John caught that day he surfed all the way to the beach! It was an all around great day of surfing for all of us, and I felt blessed to be able to share that unforgettable surf session and an epic beach day with John and his whole family ^_^
Haha John was so stoked after catching his first wave and we were all so stoked for him! Everyone was having such a good time together that he and his family ended up surfing with us that entire week while they were on vacation in California! We would all surf, eat, watch surf videos, and then go back to the beach for more surfing! It was an honor to be able to meet such a kind hearted awesome family!
