This was my first fight in a major organization. I received a call from Bas Rutten a few days following my submission win over Jonathan Pastrana on February 24. He asked me if I wanted to join his IFL team The Los Angeles Anacondas. Of course I jumped at the chance.

As a part of my mental preparation for my previous fight I had been doing a visualization exercise where I was being interviewed after winning my first fight in the IFL. The International Fight League just signed a deal with Fox Sports Net and was airing fights during primetime on channel 13 in LA. I wanted the world to see my heart in battle so I started visualizing giving my victory speech after winning my first fight on national TV.

I already had a ticket home when I got the call for this fight but I figured it would be good to get some training in at altitude. I did my first hard conditioning workout at my parent's house at 7,000 feet in the middle of March. The combination of the cold, the altitude and the intensity of the workout was too much for my body and I came down with the flu. While spraying out both ends made the weight cut easy, I was worried about my strength holding up headed into the biggest fight of my career.

Come fight night I was still running a fever but I was determined not to waste this opportunity. I got hit pretty solid right off the bat which was great because it woke me up and let me know I was in a fight. I was able to hit my takedown when he stepped in to land another big shot. I wasn't able to finish him when I was on his back but I was able to land some decent shots.

I definitely would have lost this fight if I hadn't had coach Shawn Tompkins in my corner. He is the best coach I've ever had in my corner as far and did an amazing job of keeping me on my gameplan and building my confidence despite being totally out classed on my feet. My strength held up for the most part, despite still having the shits.

This video is cool because you can see what it was like fighting on the prelims of a major organization. The arena was so empty when we fought that you could hear the shots echoing off the empty seats. I edited this video down but we where standing round in the ring for a long time. This was a great fight on the big stage for me because I proved to everyone that no matter how hard you het me I was going to keep coming. That's what it's really all about. How hard can you get hit and keep coming back.

I really believe that having a "chin" is all about your will. If you still want to be in the fight your body is going to keep you there. If you don't want to be there, getting KO'd is your bodies way of letting you off the hook. Needless to say I wanted to be in this fight more than anything in the world and I sure as hell wasn't going down.
