It is time to harvest the dill from the Rod Ridge Farm garden. My dill was a little late this year, so I had to rely on last year's harvest only. We removed the whole dill plant from the garden, snipping with scissors or just pulling it all up. Then, to preserve the dill, I cut off the flower heads. The heads are put into a paper bag to catch all of the dill seed that falls out, and then I will also stick a flower head down in my pickles. The seeds are dry and laying in the bottom of the bag. They can be used to plant the next year and can be added to any recipe you desire. The leaves of the plant are dill weed. They can be dried and used. The dill stalk is also great to save and add to any recipe in place of bay leaves or to throw into your dill recipes because they do have the dill flavor. #homesteading #growyourown #canningandpreserving #dill #wastenotwantnot
