BARN DANCE in Camas Valley, Oregon on 27 Oct 2024 - SCFS Outstanding Open Band & Caller Paul Poresky

A FALL BARN DANCE (aka Contra Dance) was held on Sunday October 27, 2024 from 5 to 7:30 pm at the Camas Valley Grange Hall, 321 South Camas Road, Camas Valley, OR. After a wonderful BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs and potluck dishes, caller Paul Poresky and The Outstanding Open Band provided live Celtic & Old-Time string band music. Hosted by the South Coast Folk Society, The Open Band welcomed all acoustic musicians who wanted to read the music and play along. Contact Accordionist & Band Director Sharon Rogers for more info. All dances were taught, and no partner was needed. Beginners were welcome.

A caller for many years, Paul Poresky is known for smooth contras & fast squares. With a teaching style that is clear & concise, beginners caught on quickly. Paul is also involved with the International Folk Dance community on the Oregon Coast and serves on the Board of the South Coast Folk Society. In Camas Valley, Paul's calling rose the energy level on the grange hall's dance floor to wonderful heights as the Outstanding Open Band played reels, jigs, waltzes and more.
