Zach: Hey guys, Zach here at trailer.com. The last couple days, we've been out here testing some ways to carry some stuff on the back of our camper here, and we found that we really like this line of Mount-n-Lock GennyGos. It allows us to carry some heavier items like this generator. This generator weighs 90 pounds dry. We put in some fuel, it's going to be a little bit more. It's not anywhere near the capacity of this heavy duty aluminum one, that's going to be 250 pounds.

That's a lot of weight on the back of our camper. Some of those factory bumpers may not be able to hold that weight. You've probably seen some of those bumpers that have had some traditional cargo carriers on the back of them, they start bending a little bit. Those aren't really intended to carry a lot of weight. So Mount-n-Lock came up with a great idea. They've created the safety strut, and the safety strut is going to add a little bit more capacity to your bumper.

It's not going to add capacity to this carrier or anything, but it's going to make your bumper a lot stronger. The safety strut is a pretty straightforward design. It mounts right here to the frame on each side of the camper, and you will have to drill into it, but you're only doing this once and the benefit of having these on here is going to be well worth it. And then it's just going to wrap around our bumper here to add that extra strength to it, and that's going to give us an additional 400 pounds, which is going to be great to really help maximize what we can carry on the back of our camper. It's going to be constructed of 5/16" inch steel, and it has a nice black powder coat finish on it so it's going to hold up against rust and corrosion. So I have the standard one on here today, but this is also going to work with your different types of frames, because this is a tube channel right here that's mounted to the frame of our camper.

And if you have an I-beam, we also have a universal kit that that's going to work out well for those. But what's great about both those kits is it's going to come with all the included hardware to get that secured in place. As you can see here, this is where our safety strut is going to mount. It's going to fit around that bumper and then it's going to attach to this little frame right here, which is attached to our camper's frame. So it's important to understand what this piece is right here. Ours is just a tube frame, so we can use either the standard or the universal safety strut.

But if you have a short I-beam, a double channel frame, or a tall I-beam, or an S-beam frame, then you're going to want to pick up the universal safety strut.Another thing to keep in mind is the size of your bumper. So we have a 4" by 4" bumper here today, but you can see this is going to work with bumpers from that 4" up to 4 1/2" as a square bumper. And I think you're going to be pretty happy with the capacity this is going to give you. If you've got that standard bumper that isn't going to give you a lot of weight to carry a couple generators back here, or if you have a heavy modified version like we have here, that weight rating is going to give you a lot of possibility for carrying a lot of different stuff back here. So overall, it's a really good way to get you some higher weight, it's easy-ish to install, and I think you're going to be pretty happy with it. That's going to do it for our look at the Mount-n-Lock safety struts.
